Exploring Sahara desert in Merzouga

DAY 1:MARRAKECH - KASBAH AIT BENHADDOU -OUARZAZATE - DADES VALLEY:

We will take you up at 8:00 a.m. in Marrakech and take you to Ouarzazate across the High Atlas Mountains' Tizi n'Tichka pass (2260 m). Berber communities will enchant you with their scenery and charm. The Kasbah of Ait Benhaddou, Morocco's largest Kasbah and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, will be our first stop (this famous kasbah was used as a backdrop for more than 20 film). We'll stop for lunch at the Kasbah before continuing on to Dades Valley through Ouarzazate, Africa's Hollywood. We'll travel down the Thousand Kasbahs Road before arriving in Kalaat M'Gouna. It is well-known for its roses and its annual rose festival, which takes place in May. We stayed in a modest riad/guest home with dinner and breakfast in the midst of the Dades Gorges.

DAY 2:DADES VALLEY - TODGHA GORGES - MERZOUGA AND CAMEL TREK:

After breakfast in the riad, we’ll drive through the valley to see rock formation “the monkey toes”. Leaving the Dades Valley towards Tinghir and the Todgha valley we’ll see panoramic views of the old mud Berber villages overlooking the valley. Arriving at the Gorges you’ll walk under the 300 m high red cliff, where many Rock-climbers come to enjoy their preferred sport. Continuing on to Erfoud and Rissani where we’ll have lunch and afterwards, we’ll leave for the village of Merzouga, where your camel will be waiting you. You’ll be welcomed with a glass of mint tea and a desert scarf before your camel-ride starts heading into the mysterious sand-sea of the Erg-Chebbi, guided by an experienced camel guide of course. After one hour and half you will get to the highest sand dunes in morocco to see one of the best sunsets in your life after that you well get to our nomadic Berber tents where you will have dinner, camp fire, drum party and over night stay in the desert.

DAY 3:MERZOUGA DESERT -ZIZ VALLEY - CEDAR FOREST - FES:

Your camel guide will wake you up to enjoy the sunrise, after which you will leisurely camel-trek back to Merzouga, savoring the unique beauty of the stunning Erg Chebbi dunes, which change with the light throughout the day. Arriving back in Merzouga and after breakfast and hot shower in the guesthouse, we’ll leaveto Fes via Errachidia along the magnificent Ziz Gorges carved through volcanic rock, and through the Tizi Ntalghamt pass to Midelt, stopping in Zaida to enjoy a barbecue and refresh with a glass of mint tea before continuing to Azrou, a Berber village in the Middle Atlas Mountains, where we’ll stop to see the Barbarian apes in the cedar forest. Then we continue to Ifrane called the French village or the Switzerland of morocco , stopping for a picture or a drink before arriving at your accommodation in Fes where you will have dinner and breakfast.

DAY 4: EXPLORING FES:

After breakfast in your riad, you will start exploring Fes the “the Sprititual City of Morocco”. You will spend the whole morning exploring the Medina and its alleys; visiting most of the sites with cultural and historical interest - including the famous Al Karaouine Mosque and University (the oldest in the world), the Medrasa Bouanania, the Tanneries and the Najjarine fountain. After lunch, we will drive you outside the Medina to see the Royal Palace gate, walk through the Jewish quarter “the Mellah”, and then visit the pottery cooperative. In the afternoon, we will drive you to one of the fortresses to experience an amazing panoramic view of the whole Medina of Fes. Overnight accommodation at the same riad.

DAY 5: FES - MEKNES - VOLUBILIS - CHEFCHAOUEN:

After breakfast in your accommodation we will drive to Chefchaouen passing by Meknes and Volubilis . In Meknes, another significant imperial city in Morocco, known as the Ismaili capital of Morocco, you will see the famous gate Bab Mansour, the Sahrij Souani Bassin, and the Mausoleum of Moulay Ismail. After lunch, your journey continues to the Roman city of Volubilis, where you will get a chance to see the wonderfully preserved original mosaics, Roman road, and city layout. As you travel through the Moroccan countryside we will pass by the Holy City of Moulay Idriss for a photo opportunity, lunch in the way and get to the blue city where the tour ends.
